y put more tha a half because sometimes is so bad that make me laught LUICIO FULCI have great movies but this is pure unintencional fun
Good movie, one of Italy's classics. Definitely a little dated and cheesy now, but if you're a big genre fan this is one of the must-sees.
One of my favorite horror movies! this Italian supernatural shocker combines both haunted house and zombie movie genres together in one gory as hell, shocking and scary thrill ride.
Definite viewing for fans of the genre.
there's something creepy in the cellar! it's Dr Freudstein - Sigmund meets Baron Von? - and he resembles a ghastly sultana. performances as creaky & wooden as the titular abode, 'challenging' editing, and a terrifying/obnoxious child who doesn't even get it. there's something crappy in the cellar.
An incredibly suspenseful Fulci film, that is not as gory as some of his other work like 'The Beyond'. Another Fulci classic
I like the scene where the bat bites the hand of the guy; this may look very stupid but it works !
Yeah, pretty good B-movie overall.
The plot is stupid and the acting stinks worse than my socks, but the reason to watch Fulci films is to appreciate and value gore and the way he manages the horror genre. He's unique in that aspect, and I recognize it. Very gory at times, but bloddy brillant as for the genre goes.
71/100
Ahhhh... Fulci... there's nothing truly to claim wrong with this, it's alittle slow, mind you, but the gore definately pays for the pace... mmm... and how...
A Lucio Fulci Film, That's one ogf those slasher type films. Little boy was a trip throughout the movie. Not a real scary movie, but a good late night thunderstorm movie.
Fulci made an enjoyable but flawed movie here. The little boy "Bob" has the most hilarious voice dubbing; with his peachy-face, it made all of his scenes funny. There were some nice gorey over-the-top death scenes which kept oozing on and on. The Italian actors in an American setting didn't quite fit. The music worked, and reminded me a lot of "The Beyond". Much work was put into creating an atmospheric haunted house setting with creaky doors, staircases and dusty floorboards. The story had some slightly confusing elements. I didn't know what to make of the tomb inside the house. I liked the monsterous Dr. Freudenstein, who was a composite of different body parts. The bat attack was silly and horrific at the same time. Some questionable things were the ghostly little girl, the mysterious babysitter Ann, and how the monster could exist in the basement through various home owners. Overall, it's a fun creepy little flick.
the kid is very annoying and i cannot stand him, there are good death scenes and an alright plot but that kid just pisses me off
The story in general and the characters are good. The death scenes are not too gory compare to others Fulci's movies but are still good.
The fourth film in Fulci's 'zombie quartet' gradually builds up to a tense and gruesome climax with a few shocking moments along the way.
BOB! Sorry, but that's the first thing that comes to mind when I think of this movie. Despite quite a few flaws, this giallo turns out to be a very enjoyable "zombie" movie.
Almost as good as The Beyond in terms of Mood and atmosphere. And its pretty thick here. Greusome effects by De Rossi. Horrible dubbing almost kills it. ANd i usually dont hold dubbing against a film but my god its torture listening to the fuck who dubbed the kid.
I would rate this almost as highly as The Beyond. Stylish, gothic horror, thick with atmosphere and trademark gore from the maestro. **** Slight spoiler *** The demise of the agent in the house has one of the bloodiest arterial spurts ever put on film!
The deaths in this movie, as seems usual with Lucio Fulci, were pretty good. Other than that, this was goddamn weird, and laughable. I wouldn't go out of my way to see this, unless it is the only movie left on the shelf. No offense Lucio... Three stars for some cool deaths!
This movie does hold its weight as a bloody Horror movie. the down side is that the movie is filled with lighting and sound errors and its obvious that they went back and filmed additional material on what looks to be a different camera. The side charecter Ann makes no sense at all and the kid they chose to play the main role is scarier then the movie itself. It does have its great moments as well with some amazing bloody effects (for its time) and if anything else it will teach you what not to do if theres a bat in your house.
Professor Norman Boyle (Paolo Malco) moves his wife Lucy (Catriona MacColl) and "cute" (a-hem!) little blonde son (Giovanni Frezza) from New York City to a cursed three-story Boston house by a cemetery. The digs come complete with creaky floorboards, crying/moaning spirits, loud bangs, a rabid devil bat, bleeding walls, a sexy/weird live-in babysitter (Ania Pieroni), the friendly ghost of a little girl and the murderous rotting, eyeless corpse of the house's former owner Dr. Freudstein (Giovanni De Nari); who hides out in the basement and emerges only to hack people up for their blood.
Extremely gory Euro-splatter overdone as only Fulci overdoes it: Why slit someone's throat once when you can do it three times? There's also an impalement (make that three impalements), several decapitations, a knife through the head, a ripped out throat, maggots and other gruesome FX stuff to keep it humming along nicely for spaghetti splatter fans, and it all ends with a Henry James quote! Just be prepared to put up with some choppy editing and bad dubbing. Especially grating is the dub on the little boy... yikes!
A Lucio Fulci classic. God rest his soul.
This film is weird, and if someone can explain the ending to me, that would be brilliant.
I think Fulci is known as the 'Godfather of Gore' only because they couldn't think of a z-title to go along with zoom. Seriously, the zoom to gore ratio is astounding. Besides that, I kind of liked the idea that a horror movie had a story, with killings in it, rather than killings with some story around it. A relatively low body count, this film relies on disgusting kills, such as someone being knifed through the back of their head and out their mouth. Possible? no. But neither is the fact that the story is about an old scientist who lives off the body parts of dead organs from people he kills. Eh, in the end someone stabs him it looked like he bled shit and maggots, yet no one said "you're full of shit!". I know I would have said it, right before he ripped my throat out. Granted I'd die, but at least there would be a smile across my decapitated face! Take that zombie-man!
