Plot:
New York in the year 2095 has evolved into a comic-book like, sci-fi metropolis. A giant pyramid hovers over the city, where the Gods of Ancient Egypt dwell, unknown to the mortals below. One of the g...( read more

Absolutely amazing movie, beautiful aesthetics, brillianta daptation and concept and above all amazing acting, especially on part by Thomas Kretschmann.
Enki Bilal,a first class graphic novels' author, makes his debut in film shooting! The entire movie is an accurate presentation of his intelligent work, using the same palette of colors as in his books! He tries and succeds to bring his creation to a satisfactory conclusion ... Nevertheless in his way to perfection, he may face up to the difficulties (by not using animated figures for example)! However the result of Enki Bilal's first direction-attempt was just uplifting!
this is going to be a cult classic, I like this movie, hard to follow whats really going on sometimes but it will make you think.
''Remember the sign we saw, my soul. That beautiful, soft summer morning... round a turning in the path. A disgusting carcass on a bed scattered with stones. Its legs in the air like a woman in need... burning its wedding poisons... like a fountain with its rhythmic sobs. I could hear it clearly with a long murmuring sound, but I touch my body in vain to find the wound. I am the vampire of my own heart. One of the great outcasts condemned to eternal laughter who can no longer smile. Am I dead? I must be dead.''
New York 2095. In a strange pyramid floating in the sky, the gods of ancient Egypt are judging Horus. In the city, a young woman with blue hair and tears is arrested, but she has a secret power, even to herself...
Linda Hardy: Jill Bioskop
Thomas Kretschmann: Alcide Nikopol
Charlotte Rampling: Elma Turner
Awesome and visionary!
Egyptian and futuristic have a fondness for mythalogical gods and customs. Sci-fi twist is amazing!
Constantly reminded me of my sweetheart Rachael the first time i saw it because im so in love, its great! Very surreal and mixed with animation, was weird but ive absorbed into it. Some weirdness to it though.
So many films don't have this range of vastness and imagination that you have to watch repeatedly to grasp.
Abit more serious than Fifth Element which it has a similar style too but with some strange animated sequences other than that it still captivates me on viewing again.
***ON WORST MOVIE LIST***
Can I give this a negative rating???
Warning to all Stargate fans: Don't be fooled by the "plot" synopsis or the pictures...the plot is fleeting, at best and nothing like Stargate (as I inferred from the DVD cover). I found this movie too disjointed to follow, and I'm a David Lynch fan!
Good movie. A little excentric in the mixture of live action and cgi characters but the story played out well. My only complaint is how they failed to finish the story. There is a large hole of it missing that I wish I could have some answers to.
It's pretty to look at but it's story sucks? Yep, sounds like Enki Bilal alright! I may not be a fan of his writing, but I'm a big fan of his art. I'm very interested in seeing a movie based on Bilal's work, especially if Bilal himself is the director.
Immortel is from Belgium. It is about the Egyptian god Horus. He is given 7 days on Earth before his fellow gods kill him. His last week is spent trying to find a woman to have his child.
This is a very weird movie. It is set in New York City in the year 2095. There are illegals constantly sneaking in from all over the galaxy. One of these illegals is the woman that Horus chooses as his prey. She has an excellent look. Her skin is pure white and she has blue hair that is constantly changing. Did I mention this is a weird movie?
This movie has many subplots that are kind of hard to connect. They put too much focus on introducing characters without developing any of them completely.
It has some great digital effects. Yet there are others that look very primitive. The make up on the actors is great. I would like to see these characters in a more serious movie that actually had substance.
Cool concept, but a lot of stuff was confusing. And what was with having half actors and half really bad CG?
I'm a respector of good flicks, and I can do alot of differect kinds of geners, but this just did not sit well with me. I thought the story line was comepletely lacking, the screen shooting was mixed between real life and something out of a Final Fantasy Game, The Idea of Horus being a stone cold killer was almost insulting, not to mention a participant in other non-mentionable activities as he is in the movie. All in all, I really think it was just NOT a even remotely good flick. Half a star for effort and originality.
This is a movie adaptation of french graphic novels called the Nikopol Trilogy which I own and they are superb. Although the movie is directed by the author of these graphic novels, Enki Bilal, it takes huge liberties from the novels but stays true to the sick cyberpunk atmosphere, which is a good thing. Normally the story takes place in Paris, as a fascist city-state fighting its neighboring city-states. There are also many awsome parts in the graphic novel which aren't in the movie so thats a little disapointing but the new storyline is impressive in imagination as well.
I don't understand why most of the characters are computer generated, especially that they were badly done for a 2004 movie so it distracted me.
Anyway, the imaging is nonetheless beautifull, and the parts with the egyptian gods are absolutely magnificent and poetic.
In brief, a movie that could have been a total masterpiece but unfortunately needs a little more for that, yet its still something never yet seen which comes out of the genious mind of one of the most creative sci-fi fantasy authors today.
No la pude ver completa daaaammmmn!
Pero los primeros minutos estan impresionantes visualmente y tematicamente se puede decir lo mismo.
It's a good film. It just needs more work. I wished it was a little more smoother. Great concept though!
Directed by: Enki Bilal.Starring: Charlotte Rampling, Thomas Kretschmann, Linda Hardy, Frederic Pierrot, Thomas Pollard.
First off I will say that the whole concept of the film is interesting and I think the director certainly had a vision to make it right, unfortunately, in the way of story and even style at times, it is an incoherent mess of a film.
Now with any normal moviegoer, they will stop the review right here and not tell people why they didn't like the film, but I will tell you why. I will start off with the story, like I mentioned at the beginning of this review, I thought that the ideas and the concept that come across is quite interesting and could have been great if done right, unfortunately, the screenwriters have too many ideas and try fitting them all into a short running time and the film jumps around too much and alot of it is jusr plain confusing. So in some ways, this is a typical film of style over substance, but even then, the style isn't exactly focused. What the director has gone and done with this film, much like the screenwriters, crammed in alot of visual ideas and they don't always work. At times, some of the CGI is amazing, at others it is just downright bad, but what I don't get is why did they have to have actors and then actors with some makeup effects (which were also amazing), and then some with a bit of CGI and then the rest copies of characters that look like they just walked of the set of the video game 'Half Life'. And that is the main thing that put me off, the use of typical video game looking CGI characters.
So to finish off, the visual style is all over the place and some of it is amazing, the story is a mess that shows some potential in scenes but not enough....and I will also mention that Linda Hardy was definately beautiful in this. A disappointment.
Quite a fascinating film, it tried to be different from a lot of films i've seen, no narrtaion to drive a story as complex as this, you have to guess a lot. especially if you know little of mythology and having to place it here. The problem from making this a five star is the ending, it just don't feel right, the way he gets sucked in and after, it has a sort of rupture that was not intended.
Pretty cool, maybe i'm not old enough to understand it all though, found it a bit strange and dark. Dark can be good though, perhaps this one will grow on me
This film was Ok the way it was but it cpuld honestly have become one of the best films ever been made if the director had taken REAL actor in ALL scened instead of using animated figures in some scenes.
Stunning visuals, but story was weak and bad... as was the acting. This film barely gets a full 3 stars.
Gotta be honest i didnt understand this film at first but worth the chance to see something new. Gives Sci-Fi a great name.
This is a helluva unique film that I wish got a bit more credit. It's not perfect in terms of storytelling narrative, but it has some amazing concepts and great execution of many of them. It's worthy of viewing for sure, especially if you're into Heavy Metal comics.
My roommate bought this on a whim. An interesting idea and mesh of both live action acting and animation.
Interesting film from beginning to end. I liked the storyline and the acting. The CGI wasn't as distracting as I thought it was going to be. A great venture.
D'après la trilogie Nikopol d'Enki Bilal. Surprenant, eclatant, recouvert d'une bande sonore hallucinante!! Timeless!
A woman, who is something more and who will become a human woman has no memory of her past. Her fate is tied to the god Horus who but has but days left of his immortal existence. Excellent merging of cgi with human actors. Unique story.
The movie wants to tell us that the current world are still faking to be unique and peaceful, especially in the US. Most of Americans said they're open-minded but still offensing Jewish, African, Asian, Arabian, etc.
Then what the fuck is open-minded?
