This superhero flick not only works as an action-adventure & an comedy, but it also works as an brilliant & multi-faceted character piece about an worldwide archetype: the reluctant hero.
I had somewhat low expectations going in but Will Smith again proved to me he can carry a movie with his acting and charm. He has come a long way from Fresh Prince of Bel Air. A good movie with good laughs good action.
The special effects are impressive on the Blu-ray version. Story is a bit weak, but Charlize makes for good eye candy. Somehow the movie just doesn't stand out and I think it will soon be forgotten about.
Well THAT was an interesting approach. It's very flawed, and it tries to make up for it with nothing much else than Charlize Theron being hot and Will being Will.
Hancock is a superhero. He's also a bum and a drunk. Until one day he saves the life of a PR guru who sets about helping him change his image. This film is an odd one. The fact that it stars Will Smith and is packed with SFX also belies the fact it has quite a quirky "indie" feel to it, and Jason Bateman's presence certainly adds to this. It's actually a great premise; the whole idea that just because someone has super powers doesn't mean they can't be a waster, and the first half of the film has a lot of very funny, inventive moments to the point where I was convinced I was seeing a future favourite. Unfortunately half way through it abandons the original idea and throws in a ridiculous back story and excuse for his existence which to be honest, I didn't really feel it needed. It could've just concentrated on the character and been a whole lot better. In fact it reminded me a little of I Am Legend in that it starts off with a great idea that seemed to have a point to make about the human condition, but it suddenly changes direction and the message gets lost in a sea of CGI and clumsy plotting. But also like I Am Legend, while it's good it's great and any film that contains the line "Did you take a man's head, and stick it up another man's ass?" gets my vote!
I loved it! It turned out to be not what I was expecting, it was a lot more entertaining and had everything from comedy to drama, I really liked the story. "Call me asshole one more time" LOL
I didn't think I was going to enjoy this. I don't know something about Will Smith movies kinda make me uneasy, but they are always great. So maybe I should just start trusting the Will Smith movies.
I only had 1 problem. The movie was short. It didn't give enough background info to Hancock or the Charlize Theron character. But besides that fall back, it was good.
A brilliant film taking a new twist at the superhero genre but has plenty of fun with it mixing drama with comedy, big action sequences and great speacial effects. A great and original flick that seperates itself from any superhero cliches. A wildly funny and action-packed adventure that is so much fun to watch. It's outragious, hilarious, exciting, wonderful and flat-out sensational. It's an excellent and exhilerating thrill-ride. A fresh, stylish, compelling and wickedly entertaining rollar-coaster of a movie. Will Smith is teriffic once again bringing an excellent performance showing off dramtic abilities with his gifted comic persona. It's no wonder why he's one of the best actors of his generation. Jason Bateman is fantastic as well giving off plenty of energy and great laughs. Charlieze Theron is wonderful. Smith and Bateman have great chemistry together, bringing out the best in their characters and performances. It's surprisingly touching with well-developed characters. It's better than you expect and delivers everything perfectly.
Good afternoon-if-you-have-anything-else-to-do type of movie. Hope Smith begins to be more selective in the movies he makes. Comedies or dramas is the way to go Will.
A slacker superhero: brilliant concept. Shame the second half of the movie hops into another genre and director Peter Berg struggles to keep things together. Nevertheless, Will Smith is a gas.
Initially a movie about an alcoholic super hero seems like it would write itself. In reality though, there are several ways that his movie could have turned out corny, sappy, or just plain ridiculous. Peter Burg and company, however, are able to steer it down the one true path. One of the keys to this in my mind was that they were able to make Will Smith's character truly despicable and pathetic in the beginning. Which, aside from making him seem more real, makes his attempt to better himself later in the film all the more intriguing. In addition, Jason Bateman gives yet another excellent comic performance as Hancock's PR man. In my opinion, Batemen isn't getting enough exposure lately. Hopefully soon someone will be willing to forget "Teen Wolf Too" and give him a leading role already. Not only is this an extremely funny movie, but there are also several heart-warming emotional scenes as well. The action and special effects are highly entertaining too. So, if you're looking for a good laugh, some top-notch super hero action, or just a good story, "Hancock" is guilty as charged on all three counts.
The movie was pretty good but a friend told me the best part and made the movie less than great, but overall Will did a good job and it was a cute movie
Hancock started out as one film, and ended as another film. The plot was, perhaps too big for one movie, but the novelty of the misunderstood anti-super-hero wasn't enough to carry the producers confidence for more than one movie. It's worth a watch on dvd, but don't set your expections to high.
a hugely pleasant suprise. after all of the negative hype out there, especially about the end, i wasnt expecting much, and i loved it. the twist was actually a lot of fun for me and the movie ended perfectly for the way the story had been set up. an enjoyable film and another example of will smith suprising me with a great movie.
Totally not what i expected to see. Hancock It took me a very long time to get interested in the movie but then when Charlize Theron turned up to be a "super hero" also I was completely confused. The only thing this movie left me with were a lot of unanswered questions.
An extremly different take on the superhero genre! The bum that is Hancock really adds a twist to the overly used cliche superhero. The plot is simple yet it has and emotional complexity that most films lack. Love it!
A hard-living superhero (Smith) who has fallen out of favor with the public enters into a questionable relationship with the wife (Theron) of the public relations professional (Bateman) who's trying to repair his image.
Finally a superhero like no other.Hancock is well, not a boy scout but he´s a one hell of a super.Well,i enjoyed it.I think is a preety funny movie with a lot of action and special effects(don´t forget the comedy as well). Will Smith gives here one of the funniest perfomances ever since Men in Black as Hancock,a hard drinking, fist talking superhero that says everything he wants and he doens´t care about no one.But you like or not,he ´s going to save the world.Hancock belongs to Will Smith´s blockbuster resumé along I am Legend(must see). And i also liked Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron and i was suprised withTheron and Smith´s fight scene.
I loved Hancock.Not a great movie but hey,is Big Will Smith,man.
