Watchable at times, but still a silly mess for the most part. Sam Neill saying trippy things about reality and hell while being naked and covered with blood might be cool for a while, but you just can't make a whole movie about that, unless you are doing some new "meme" video for youtube. And even that will get repetitive after a while.
A half-interesting plot housed into a half-complete movie assembled by a half-assed production team, Event Horizon has its interesting aspects and turns but ultimately falls far from a memorable film in either of the two genres that it steps heavy treads into. The potential was there for Event Horizon to be an endearing, stimulating science fiction horror journey, but due to its truncated running time, hokey script, and turgid performances - it shambles constantly.
a guilty pleasure
"So Fucked Up" highlight: recovered tape from hell
original and imaginative yet not spectacular. a crew of a spaceship go on the hunt for another spaceship that their community lost contact with 7 years previous. only the missing ship has been where no man has been before. i'll let you guess where. anyway, haven't seen sam neill in much except the obvious jurrasic park and the lesser known although note-worthy merlin. he was good enough and so was laurence fishburne of matrix fame. no one acted particularly well but the film itself gets you thinking and keeps your attention. probably the geordie directors best film
Excellent sci fi movie wth lots of scary atmosphere
Paul W.S Anderson;s Event Horizon is more or less hailed as The Shining in space. Sam Niel and Laurence Fishburne star in this film as rescue members who find this ship in the middle of space called the Event Horizon.
Upon boarding it they quickly discover everyone is dead all due to a mysterious device that was found in the ship. The film was more or less about opening dimensions and how hell was discovered.
Paul W.S. Anderon did a rather decent job adapting this film even if alot of the production was poor. What I liked about it was the horror this film had. There weren't no demons or anything like that but it did have alot of ghost segments throughout.
It was also interresting to see the type of person Sam Niel turns into halfway through the film and how he slowly progressed. Aside from the poor visuals this film produced, everything else about it was pretty much decent.
It had a scary atmosphere and the acting was good. Anderson didn't write this film which was a very good thing. If you haven't seen this film you should but don't go and expect a classic though.
The original trailer for this movie that I saw on tv, about a decade ago, didn't do it justice. I don't remember if the trailer posted, on this movies page, is that same trailer, but this movie is much better than the trailer let on.
A very good movie, that does have some predictable and SAD acting near the end, unfortunately. But all in all, thankfully, it doesn't take away all that much from the film.
